
Highway Applications
There are a number of aerial acquisition systems, each of which is able to
acquire information and provide Highways consultants / engineers with suitable data to meet its needs. Each system is applicable to different situations and activities, but the primary advantage of airborne collection is health and safety, as survey and mapping may be undertaken remotely without the need for access to the Highway itself. The data can be used for a variety of applications including engineering design, maintenance, environmental assessment, GIS, asset management and property management.

The following will outline each technique, identifying the advantages and
disadvantages of each in order to provide sufficient information to define
future survey and mapping activities. There are currently three options,
