Land Survey

BLOM Aerofilms has over 40 years experience in providing detailed topographic and measured building surveys for architects, engineers and developers as well as providing a data capture service for GIS users. Using the very best technology and experienced surveyors, BLOM Aerofilms can deploy survey teams anywhere in the UK and Ireland.

Topographic Survey

Topographic surveys can be produced in a variety of scales ranging from 1:50 up to 1:2500 depending on the client's requirements. Most of the surveys carried out by BLOM Aerofilms tend to be 1:200 or 1:500. A network of control points is first established before observations are taken to the required topographical features. Most commonly a combination of Total Stations, GPS receivers and Digital Levels are used for data capture, the choice being largely dependant on site conditions: GPS is best for large open sites, whilst total stations are better in built up areas or where there is a lot of tree cover.

On completion of the field survey observations the data is processed, either back in our Cheddar office or using Laptop computers in the field, using either Landscape, LISCAD or LSS processing Software before being transferred to AutoCAD for final presentation. The final data can be supplied as either 2D or 3D in a choice of formats including AutoCAD, MOSS, LSS and Microstation, as well as the traditional plots on either paper or transparent film.  Projects carried out recently include Highways surveys on the A2 in Northern Ireland and the N11 in The Republic of Ireland as well as several surveys of historic sites for CADW in Wales. We have also carried out field verification surveys on data produced for the Ordnance Surveys 1:1250 & 1:2500 mapping products.

Measured Building Survey

Providing floor plans, elevations and sections BLOM Aerofilms undertakes comprehensive and detailed measurements of all building types including domestic, commercial and historic buildings at a variety of scales but usually at either 1:50 or 1:100. Field data is capture using Leica Disto laser measuring devices supported by Total Station and digital level instrumentation before being plotted using AutoCAD. Data can be supplied in a variety of formats at the client's request.
