Route Planning

Route Planning

For route planning level, a topographic overview can be taken to indicate where more detailed survey work may be needed. Digital terrain and surface models (DTM and DSMs) can be provided across a range of formats for quick visualization of complete areas for new routes, enhancements, electrification, or re-opening of dormant lines.

Control your Mainline Station Assets

BLOM’s ‘URBEX’ technology provides oblique imagery for all of central London, including all the mainline stations, which can enable route-planning, platform extension, and station design.

Brigg Line Freight Enhancement
Project: Line Enhancement Date: 2007
Client: Arup Value: Non Disclosed
Application: Enhancement of existing line Sensor: TopEye MkII

High resolution LiDAR data and 4cm GSD imagery was captured using helicopter based LiDAR of the freight route between Gainsborough and Brigg. The survey was flown in order to plan modifications to the line so that it can be updated to increase the level of rail traffic passing along the route. A number of different products were supplied from the data including a dtm of the entire route, 4cm GSD orthophotography, 1:500 scale topographic mapping of the Brigg embankment, contour models and an AVI of cross sections through the laser data at chain intervals.

Cross London Rail Links
Project: Rail Links Date: 2007
Client: Crossrail Value: Non Disclosed
Application: Topographic Mapping Sensor: Vexcel UltraCamD

Aerial photography acquired at 1:3,000 scale for the proposed route (Reading to Maidenhead and Abbey Wood to Hoo Junction, suitable for 1:500 mapping to be captured from it. Where height restrictions where in place, 1:600 scale imagery was captured.1:500 scale topographic mapping was carried out for two sections of route between Stepney Green and Abbey Wood. 1:2,500 and 1:3,000 scale aerial photography was used and 10cm orthophotos also supplied.
